“Edgen Murray has a unique work atmosphere. It is fun and friendly yet demanding and results driven.”

My decision to apply for Edgen Murray’s graduate program was easy – I wanted a career in Business & Management and Edgen Murray offered a role where graduates rotate between different functions in order to understand the entire business. I wanted an environment where I would face challenges to achieve my full potential and the company was a fast growing one which demanded a lot from its people. Also, I wanted international exposure and the program included three foreign placements.

At the assessment center, in addition to the HR manager the company directors were personally involved in the recruitment, showing the importance they placed on the scheme. They were all warm, friendly and easy to talk with. Therefore, when I got offered a place, I was very excited.

Now, a few months into the program, Edgen Murray has far exceeded my expectations. It has been a very steep learning curve. I have been introduced to the energy and steel industries, the different players, market driving forces, diverse range of steel products, technical specifications, applications and regulations. I have been on demanding courses on everything from presentation skills to metallurgy to contract law. I have travelled to various countries from Singapore to China to Australia to Japan; and met a diverse range of interesting individuals with different cultures.

Edgen Murray has a unique work atmosphere. It is fun and friendly yet demanding and results driven. One minute I’m dodging a ball kicked across the sales office by my line manager and the next I’m striving to put finishing touches on a section of my project in order to meet a deadline and catch a flight to Thailand! Here each day is different, each day I am forced to push myself beyond my comfort zone and each day I learn a new and exciting thing.
